Abstract This research aims to examine the relationship between extracurricular time management and academic performance of junior high school students in Hsinchu County. The main goals of this study are to find out what is the current status of how Hsinchu county junior high school students manage their time; compare how junior high school students with different backgrounds manage their time in different situations; discuss how junior high school students manage their time to predict academic achievement; and discuss what are the variables of junior high school students with different backgrounds when it comes to time management. Students enrolled in 2014 school year in Hsinchu County at certain public junior high school were taken as subjects for this research.Using self-made questionnaire about students' extracurricular time as a research tool.According to all grades PR value of the second monthly exam of the academic year 2014, students were divided into eight groups.Each group was set of random sampling of 26 people, 208 students were taken from each grade, a total of 624 samples were drawn in the school, and there were 722 effective questionnaires returned. Finally, all the data received were analyzed by T-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation, multiple stepwise regression analysis, etc. Semi-structured interviews style was used to interview three grades: high grades, middle grades—two groups of six students. The main conclusions are as follow: I) Junior high school students have a moderate-degree time management: (1)The junior high school students can manage their time better for more relatively clear external specifications (2)The junior high school students are less active for autonomy and strategic time management (3)The junior high school students’ academic learning motivation needs to be strengthened II) Background variables will affect the junior high school students’ time management (1)The third-grade junior high school students who are the oldest children at home, and live with their parents, are the ones with better time management abilities. (2)The junior high school students’ parents with high education and high occupational hierarchy have children with good time management skills (3) Under the caregiver primary attitude toward democracy and strict discipline, the children's own time management is better than a laissez-faire management (4)Different gender junior high students have no significant difference in the time management III) There is a positive correlation between time management and academic achievement 4. Time Management for junior high school students' academic achievements have significant predictive power V) Family structure: the main manager of correctional attitudes background variables for junior high school students academic achievement have significant predictive power VI) Parents 'education and occupations and other background variables for junior high school students academic achievement have significant predictive power Finally, based on the above result, it made specific recommendations to the competent authority as a reference education, school executive, junior teachers and researchers of the future.
