This study is an action research on applyingDrama In Education Theoryin Life Curriculum for Elementary School Students. The term “Drama In Education” refers to a tool of using drama in teaching, in which teachers and students discuss the process of communication and interaction for issues intended to explore and focus on the course of topic discussion instead of targeting on drama performance. The course development project was based on students of second grade in junior school. Its curriculum core issue is “Felling Gratefully” and, with the “Essence of Love” for curriculum design, this project conducted in-depth exploration on “Felling Gratefully” through 4 teaching activities. The course was proceeded in junction with tow modular frameworks of “Procedure Drama” and “Story Drama” in educational drama with the purpose to enable students to have in-depth experiences and feelings toward felling greatly and love.
The research results can be analyzed and explored from three dimensions of teaching courses, students and teachers as follows: 1. Teaching course dimension: in the selection of exploring issue, it is recommended to select issues related to life experiences of students; the “emotion-in” of teachers is a critical role to guide course direction in the teaching process; the course of issue discussion is the critical moment to develop children’s abilities; while the drama expression is a key result in triggering learning motivation. 2. The learning outcomes of students: through education drama, students show improvement in confidence of self-expression, interactive communication, and abilities of problem solving, imagination and creativity. In addition, it showed a positive cohesive environment in whole learning atmosphere of classes. 3. The dimension of teachers’ professional growth: through the action research of educational drama, teachers are able to realize that they must continue to sophisticate their teaching so that to provide more learning with quality for children. Furthermore, since educational drama is a comprehensive and diverse, the endless potential of each child was discovered in the course of this study, and what the teachers have to do is to provide a stage to let children enjoy the play and learn how to respect other children’s ideas.
