Abstract "Wintry Night Trilogy", Joe Lee’s Roman-Fleuve masterpiece, mainly narrates the struggling of three generations in a family on the land of Taiwan before and after the period of Japanese occupation. In addition to containing many references to Taiwan history, the story also shows the author’s feeling for the land and his desire for myth. This paper attempts to sort out the idea the author wants to express, from real and fake plots in the book the love for township, earth and people. Therefore I intend to use some concepts of mythology to discuss " Wintry Night Trilogy" deeply and successively. By Jung's archetype theory I explored the symbolism and the world constructed in the book; Campbell's hero journey was used to discuss the meaning of the main character represented in the book. Finally, I analysed the pursuing of group prosperity, the patterns of ideal character and religious consciousness through the time, space, and characters constructed in the book by utopian theory. In summary, the feeling for the country is what the author tries to express in the book. |
