A Study on the Relationships between Principals’ Charismatic Leadership and School Organizational Change in Elementary Schools, in Taoyuan County, Hsinchu County, Hsinchu City and MiaoLi County.
Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the present situation of Principals’ Charismatic leadership, and school organizational change in elementary schools in Taoyuan County, Hsinchu County, Hsinchu City and Miaoli County. It also aims at analyzing different situations with different background variables, and at comprehending the correlations between Principals’ Charismatic leadership and school organizational change. Finally, this study hopes to figure out how much school organizational change could be predicted by Principals’ Charismatic leadership . The questionnaire survey has been adopted as the research method in this study and the teachers of elementary schools in Taoyuan County, Hsinchu County, Hsinchu City and Miaoli County are picked as subjects of this survey. After Stratified random sampling according to school sizes, and location of the school, the researcher sent out 566 questionnaires to 60 schools. And 538 responses were retrieved, 524 of them valid for this study, at a rate of up to 97.4%. The collected data was analyzed by means of average, standard Deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation analysis and Stepwise Multiple Regression. The results of the study were as follows: 1. The perception of teachers in elementary schools from Taoyuan County, Hsinchu County, Hsinchu City and Miaoli County toward whole Principals’ Charismatic leadership and school organizational change are above the average. 2. There are significant differences among the school principal’s charismatic leadership based on different background variables (school staff ages , school scales and the location of school). 3. There are significant differences among school organizational change based on different background variables (school staff ages , school scales and the location of school). 4. There are positive correlations between the school principal’s charismatic leadership and school organizational change. 5. The school principal’s charismatic leadership can apparently predict school organizational change. According to those conclusions, some useful suggestions have been presented to the elementary school principals, teacher and future studies.
