The purpose of this study was to seek the effects and the process of receiving games which integrate with literacy learning on the first graders’ word recognition. The researcher tried to find some effective ways to break through the instructors’ deep-rooted teaching methods by the study. In the process of action research, the researcher learned the real learning procedure of students’ word recognition. At the same time, the researcher observed the instructors’ teaching difficulties and the solutions to the difficulties in class. According to the result of the study, the study can be the reference for the instructors and the researchers of teaching word recognition in the future. The results of this study are as follows. 1. To implement game-based teaching to the first graders’ word recognition was quite feasible. 2. The ability of the first graders’ word recognition was upgraded after implementing game-based teaching. 3. The ability of the instructors in teaching was developed.
