Donghe Farm is located in Beiyuan Donghe Township at the edge of Taitung county. Early Nationalist government moved to Taiwan and set up retirement NYC, with a function to instruct and help cross-sea veterans ('glorious' veterans) employment and livings as well as other follow-up matters. Donghe Farm was one of its organization for such type. But mountain settlement of planting was difficult and most residents had choose moving to some other livable places. Some veterans became too old and went to some Veterans Home, so far have mostly died. As the population of mountain inhabitants decreased, most of their houses buried along with dirt and grass. Despite the inconvenience and loss of chance, I still hope, in this thesis, to restore its past prosperous scene by recapturing various moods of its former residents while working or leaving their homes. And I proceed to do some related interviews and collect photos to add local warmth to this peripheral Taitung history, otherwise being neglected and forgotten. In this thesis, representation of Donghe Farm and its surrounding residents through provided photos and narration do help concretize their former living condition and mutual interactions. At the same time, an understanding of the whole cultivating process, from its barren state to temporal prospection and final abandonment, might help younger generation to have a new and better review of their parent's decades of immigrant mountain life.
