This study sorts out the compound words of kha and tshiú to learn the uniqueness of their morphology and semantics. Comparing the data, the study finds the extended meanings of the compound words are wider than Mandarin. The word order of kha and tshiú in Min dialect is differs from the orders of Mandarin and Hakka dialect. By investigating the semantics and comparing the word order, when kha is referring to people, the perception and word order is also matched. the meaning of kha and tshiú deriving from body parts to abstract meanings, expressing metaphor and metonymy, the study concludes and provides evidence that upper words of compound words has more positive meanings than lower ones. |
