Templearchitecture in Taiwan embodies thefolk arts of the island.The architects that build thesebeautiful temples are all skillful professionals and areregarded as an intangible part of Taiwan's cultural heritage.This study began by looking at the achievements of these artists,where they worked,what they made and what they will leave behind for future generations. In addition, it looked at the development of these artists' skills throughout their lifetimes. Interviews conducted as part of the research indicated that the traditional craft of temple art is at risk of disappearing.Furthermore, the study reflects on case studies of mechanisms in place in Japan and Korea to protect and preserve the cultural heritage of temple art and skills of the the temple artists, and attempts to suggest solutions that would be appropriate for Taiwan to implement. |
