The advantages of advanced fabrication process, flexibility, cost efficiency, and speed for production capacity resulted from the vertically integrated infrastructure and the industry cluster effect have made Taiwan semiconductor industry highly competitive in the global market. By the end of 2014, market share of Taiwan’s wafer foundry and packaging & testing sectors ranked 1st respectively, and 2nd IC design only behind the USA among the wordwide competitors. On the other hand, cooperation & competition relationship of competitors bring new opportunies and threats to Taiwain’s semiconductor industry in highly competitive market.The present study focuses on the ARM Holdings plc.- a leading company of Silicon Intellectual Property, supplemented by analysis of semiconductor industry and technology evolution as well as the future tendency & challenge of product development concurrently. The literature section describes the topics of internal and external environment of industry, development process of case study company, achievements of operation, position and strategy of market from the core technology & products, business model and growth strategy, merger and acquisition of transnational business, and the enterprise competition strategy, supplemented by the management model, personal experience and observation.The results show that, to the key successful factors of case company ARM Holdings plc, outstanding technology capability, meeting the requirement of end products, insight and strategy of new market development, total solution service to customers, innovative business model and ecosystem. The study provides a guideline for the technology development and strategy plan of semiconductor industry. We can also extend this subject to other domain discussion and further research on business strategies simultaneously. |
