本篇論文主要是以 den Dikken (2006)的述謂結構理論來探討韓語中帶有uy之名詞短語的句法結構。Uy一向被視為韓語中的屬格標記，然而，當我們觀察其句法表現，發現uy 有著與一般屬格標記不同的特性，包含：（1）透過uy， 中心名詞能夠被許多不同論旨角色的名詞前修飾語所修飾；（2）和uy結合所形成的名詞前修飾語其位置能夠與其他名詞外緣之名詞前修飾語自由調換；（3）和uy結合所形成的名詞前修飾語無法認可名詞組刪略。除此之外，uy還有一個特殊的現象：當名詞前修飾語為中心名詞之論元時，uy可以省略不出現 (參見An 2009)。透過比較有uy標記及無uy標記的名詞短語不同的句法表現，我主張這兩種型式的名詞短語其句法結構有著根本上的不同：有uy標記的名詞短語是衍生自小句，經由謂語倒裝而得；無uy標記的名詞短語則是直接基礎生成於NP投射內。如此的結構差異導致了兩者句法表現之差異。最後，對應於韓語語料的日語語料提供了跨語言的證據，支持了我對韓語名詞短語的分析。

This thesis aims to investigate the syntactic structures of the nominal phrases with uy in Korean from the perspective of predication in line with den Dikken’s (2006) theory. The Korean genitive marker uy looks like a genitive marker at first blush. However, when we dig into it in respect of syntax, several interesting characteristics emerge, including (i) uy’s omnipotence to connect a modifier to a head noun which has a variety of thematic relations with it; (ii) the flexibility in word order with respect to the other noun-outer prenominal elements; and (iii) the exceptional banning on NP-ellipsis. In addition, a more intriguing phenomenon is that uy may be omitted when the prenominal modifier is θ-marked by the head noun, which is called uy-drop in An (2009). By comparing the syntactic characteristics between the uy-marked and the uy-unmarked nominal phrases, I propose that the two originate from completely distinct constructions: uy-marked nominal phrases are derived from a small clause by virtue of Predicate Inversion with the aid of a linker; in contrast, uy-unmarked nominal phrases are base-generated within the NP projection. The structural disparity thus leads to the divergences of syntactic behaviors between the two. Furthermore, the Japanese data serves as the cross-linguistic evidence for the bifurcate analysis, in parallel with the Korean data.
