This study aims to explore how to improve the effectiveness of Atayal language learning through picture books teaching. In order to achieve this goal, the researcher, also the teacher, conducts an action research. Three picture books from the E-learning platform of Indigenous Languages suitable for the research were selected. Adopting the teaching plan from the E-Learning Platform, the teacher implements the picture books into the teaching of Atayal language. After 18 weeks of teaching practice, it was found that students can learn Atayal vocabulary. However, upon introspection and under expert guidance, it was also found that the design did not teach the learners in a step-by-step manner, resulting in ineffective learning of sentence patterns. Therefore, a second 12-week teaching practice was carried out, using different teaching methods like sensory teaching method and Audio-Lingual Teaching method. In addition, through different teaching techniques like gestures, pictures, realia, storytelling, etc., and through the story telling, students’ memories are enhanced, so that they can speak fluently. To understand the effectiveness of students’ learning of Atayal language. During the course of the research, the researchers collected data through classroom observation (video recording), teaching journals and reflections, worksheets, and interviews with native language teachers. Analyzing the materials, the study found that by integrating picture books into the teaching of Atayal language, the effectiveness of school children’s language learning can be improved. Finally, the researchers put forward specific suggestions based on the research results for the reference of schools, teachers and future researchers. |
