In this research we aim at studying the combination of clay and glass material, trying to find out the possibility of a new vision. To show the feeling of pursuing essence of life by artwork, we choose a linear method of shaping clay to explore the change of individual emotion, modeling the density and extensibility of plant’s root, which is incorporated with glass’s fluidity and connectivity. By which means, we present the identity of object, life and self, as well as the importance of interaction and affection among people in modern life. We are interested in describing the process of looking for the life path through the research. Clay is a kind of material closest to dirt in nature, which is believed to be one of the sources that originated creatures owing to its abundant nutrients. This is the reason we choose clay as the main material and let it play a significant role in our work. On the other hand, glass, a unique material featured by its limpidity, can not only symbolize the innocence of children and awakened intrinsic energy based on a crystal side but also represent the mysterious power and warm vitality via a hazy side, and this is exactly the core value we always focus on in our venture. The main difficulty in our work is the constraint of combination due to the crack caused by the difference of expansion coefficients between clay and glass, which contradicts our purpose of integrating them into unity. This leads to the inspiration about merging ceramics and glass. Fortunately, we made a research about the application of fusing ceramics and glass in this paper and figured out it is possible to fuse Sculpture clay and boron-silicate glass together thanks to their similar expansion coefficients, and therefore produced totally 24 pieces including series of “Vagueness”, “Rooting the inner source”, “Variety”, etc, demonstrating the spirit of our topic “Between object and self”.
