This research is to investigate my personal collections from 2019 to 2020 and to discuss the flow of memories carried in the creations based on the concept of the "durée" proposed by Henri Bergson (1859-1941). The media used in the works includes painting, photography, video, and installation. Those self-concerned but fading life experiences are taken as the theme, to further explore memories that reappear in vague form.
Firstly, the research motivation, aim, content and methods are discussed in the introduction chapter. In the second chapter, Duration and Reappearance, the theory of this thesis is explained from both aesthetic and philosophical perspectives, and the characteristics of memory circulation and continuity will be analyzed from Bergson’s point of view. Then it cuts into the framework of artistic representation, to interpret the characteristics and significance of using photography as the initial medium of creation, following by the summary of the use of the vague expression in creation according to several artists. The third chapter, Memory and Vague, discusses the feeling of disappearing and continuous memories in my life experiences, sorting out the changes from my past creation, and analyzing the application and progression of the creative media and forms. The fourth chapter, Work Analysis, evaluates my four series of works, including Island, Lost Memory, Wandering Light, and A Room series. Finally, in the concluding chapter, the content in this research as well as the relationship between the flowing memory and light expression in my creation are summarized, and the future direction is proposed.
