I am a 55-year-old female novice teacher at a Waldorf school. "50+5 The Unexpected Life" is my self-inquiry research in chronological order.
"50" refers to the 50 years of the first half of my life; "5" refers to the later 5 years working in a Waldorf school as a teacher. The opportunity was a gift but entirely out of my expectation. The full text is written from a teacher’s point of view, looking back the childhood, youth, married, middle age, and now a vocation as a teacher.
The narrative is divided into three major parts:
Part 1 is a journey of growth describing the original family and the early learning experience, the course of suffering from asthma for about 25 years during the youth, and the change in married life after becoming a housewife .
Part 2 is a refreshing and preparing stage at the middle age. After my children all entered the schools, I became a freed mother to join dance and art courses, to practice simple Christian life, and to explore into the field of experimental education.
Part 3 expresses a new teacher’s experience in a Waldorf junior high school, including what I found, what I learned, how I worked and how I reflected. The challenges occurred one after another during the past 3 years as a tutor teacher.
Tracing back the past life, I can observe the transformation process of my whole life. Because the viewpoint has been moved from the past to the present, I gain new insight and understanding from the past events. And that gives me power and strength to face the future.
