Abstract Picture books and children's life education have a very close internal connection. As a favorite reading material for children, picture books contain rich life information. The vivid picture image characteristics are in line with the thinking mode and cognitive characteristics of children's specific images, so as to help children understand life, feel life, love life, and establish a positive direction for life, and a positive attitude. This article is about to take advantage of the unique advantages of picture books, try to use the research on the theme of picture books to carry out practical activities on children's life education in the future, and try to open up a new way for children's life education to promote the healthy development of children's body and mind. Based on the learning themes of the 108-year syllabus of life education topics, the author chooses five books of life education topics suitable for third-grade students as the main research objects, as the promotion of the textbook. Based on this, we designed the thematic education activities that expanded from self to interaction with the world, and took “the journey of life” as the clue-“My relationship with myself”, “My relationship with others”, “My relationship with the environment”, “The relationship between me and life”, designed a systematic teaching material design based on the four-fold relationship between people and life. There is a very complicated relationship between the discourse and the image in the text of the picture book. In addition to exploring the connotation of the theme of life education through text analysis, this article also explores the relationship between the narrative image and the text. Finally, based on the analysis of the themes of the five volumes of picture books in the full text, several suggestions for using picture books in life education activities are put forward, especially in the picture book reading activities, children’s experience and feelings of life should be paid attention to.
