“Measure words”can simply be classified as “Nominal classifiers” and “Verbal classifiers”, they have always been an important topic in the learning of Chinese language. Nouns and verbs in the Chinese language are countable, therefore it is challenging for students to have the thorough understanding in a short period of time. However, beginning students are facing daily conversation that is full of “Measure words”, how to accurately manage the hierarchy and the arrangement of the teaching material is extremely important. This research mainly focuses on the study of the beginning level of the two teaching materials “Practical Audio-Visual Chinese 2nd Edition”and“Standard Course HSK” We are going to analyze the hierarchy and strategy of the teaching of“Dedicated verbal classifiers”and“Temporary verbal classifiers”and explore whether the order and distribution of the introduction of Verbal classifiers accurately conform the frequency of application in the daily conversation and whether it meets the levels of the Chinese proficiency test standards. The major discoveries of the report are the following: 1. The“Temporary verbal classifiers”appears in a more advanced level in the teaching material. There isn't any example of “Temporary verbal classifiers”in the beginning level. However, few of the “Temporary verbal classifiers”can be found in the Chinese proficiency test (HSK) . 2. Comparing the compilation and the exercises for Verbal classifiers grammar parts between the two textbooks, one is simpler and easier to understand, but it doesn't provide examples that show the subtle differences among similar“Dedicated verbal classifiers”. On the other hand, the second one is more thorough and suitable for self-learners. However some of the sortings are too detailed, thus it seems to be more complex and challenging for beginning students and causes them to shy away from learning. 3. Due to the differences in the grammar standards between Taiwan and Mainland China, the two teaching materials have an different arrangement in the level of difficulty for the topic of Verbal classifiers. As an example, “biàn(遍)、tàng(趟)、dùn(頓)”are the verbal classifiers that are placed at different levels in both of the teaching materials. Although the arrangement of grammar is in line with the daily conversation, the layout and compilation of the teaching material still have room for improvement. Based on the analysis of the teaching strategy and compilation of the two books for beginning students“Practical Audio-Visual Chinese 2nd Edition”and“Standard Course HSK”, this research seeks for the opportunity to provide a more effective planning and strategy for the teaching material of Chinese language.
