Abstract This thesis is aimed at exploring the self-anxiety and analysis of melancholic causes under pressure of series of frustrated examinations as reflected in my artworks, which were created during the on-job courses at the department of Fine Arts and Design of the National Tsinghua University since 2008. Focusing on descriptions of self-image and feelings generated under anxiety , the researcher also adopted psychological discourse and analysis to clarify the context of artistic development and aesthetic idea. By expressing inner emotions as expressionism has shown, relationship between self and anxiety, together with related body deformation would be treated so as art form and style could be explicated. This thesis thus contains two series, i.e. "anxiety series" and "evaporate series". Anxiety series deal with depiction of inner struggle and role conflict, as well as body symptom under pressure of frustrated examinations. Evaporate series describe the mood transformation process after the success of being a formal teacher. The results of this study demonstrate the researcher's creative context, which was evolved like a system capable of "evaporating melancholia", following steps of anxiety, depression, frustration and healing. Beside revealing of the researcher's internal changes of anxious feelings, this thesis also provides the possible understanding and reference for the general anxiety and melancholia modern men usually suffer within. As for its distinctive feature, this thesis treats such abstract ideas as anxiety and melancholy with most concrete and vivid images of some metaphorical significance. As artworks herein form an expressionist and tragic atmosphere as a whole, the researcher holds the prospection that readers/viewers could empathize her life course and findings therein.
