隨著科技的日新月異，生活越來越科技化人們生活方式慢慢地在改變。從以前的粗茶淡飯到現在的大魚大肉，就業就學壓力越來越大的情況下，使得高血壓、心血管疾病等等開始普及化及年輕化長期下來對社會是一個很大的隱憂。雖然慢性疾病不會馬上致人於死，但卻會提升一個患者的死亡率，由此可知慢性疾病要越早發現越好，所以本篇研究目的是找出不同於柯氏法、示波法來量測出血壓。
這次研究利用布拉格光纖光柵(fiber Bragg grating，FBG)並灌入矽膠膜，藉由FBG的中心波長會隨著應力飄移的特性來取得脈搏波形圖。矽膠膜除了可以保護脆弱的光纖外，還可以增加FBG的延展性放大脈搏讓取得的波形圖更加明顯。將裝置設定好後放在手腕橈動脈脈搏的位置上，利用木工L形夾提供垂直向下的應力並由I-MON USB光譜儀取得數據到電腦裡，接著以Matlab程式濾掉高低頻就可以得到脈搏波形圖，然後利用脈搏時域分析法所提到的參數來運算出血壓。本次實驗中找了九位23歲的受試者及一位63歲有高血壓病史的受試者來驗證這個架構的可行性。

This study uses a Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) to be molded into a silicone film. The pulse waveform is obtained by the Bragg wavelength shift in response to the stress applied on the FBG including the radial arterial pressure. The silicone film can not only protect the fragile FBG, but also increase the sensitivity of the stress pressure,i.e,make the pulse waveform more observable against weak blood pressure. After the device is set, it is placed on radial artery of the wrist. The vertical downward stress is provided by the woodworking L-shaped clip ,and pulse waveforms are obtained by the I-MON USB spectrometer .The data is sent to the computer, and then the high and low frequency spectral components of the waveform are filtered out to obtain a clear pulse waveform, and then an algorithm is used to compute the systolic and diastolic blood pressures. In this experiment, nine 23-year-old subjects and one 63-year-old ,with the latter having high-blood pressure history, were tested to verify the possibility of this framework.
