In the process of embracing darkness, Eastern individuals not only have the ability to endure extended periods within an atmosphere of shadowy ambiance but also experience a profound sense of tranquility and security. The author, situated within this environment, similarly finds themselves at ease. Particularly, the softly dimmed lighting sources create a space where everything appears hazy and obscure, intensifying the author's profound reliance on this experience. This reliance is equally true for the author. Therefore, by delving into childhood memories, the author aims to uncover the reasons behind their unwavering fascination with the ambiance in which light presents itself with subtlety. Through the collection, reading, and organization of literature, the author elucidates why the shadowy ambiance permeates the world of Eastern culture. Consequently, this provides the contextual framework and foundation for reinterpreting the perceptions of light and materiality within the realm of shadow, serving as the guiding concept for the development of "The Light of Still" in their creative work. To grasp the Eastern perspective on darkness, renowned for its uniqueness and elegance, a comprehensive comparative analysis was undertaken. This involved retracing the developments in various domains like painting, architecture, jewelry, and others in both Western and Eastern contexts. The objective was to discern the distinct characteristics and styles in each culture and uncover the underlying reasons for these disparities. It becomes evident that the Eastern penchant for the shadowy style is a result of a fortuitous alignment of factors such as geography, climate, and the conditions of cultural development, creating a synergy of time, place, and people. In the end, guided by the sensation of shadow, the development of the "The Light of Still"series was based on this design concept. These works were positioned within the realm of craftsmanship and categorized into three series: "Dim Light," "Thinly filtered light," and "Shadow-infused light", comprising a total of 15 lighting fixtures. The designs ranged from ceramics allowing light to pass through to variations in material thickness, showcasing diverse light and shadow effects. Furthermore, the overall appearance of the lighting fixtures was enriched by the use of different combinations of unit elements and the incorporation of textured black glaze. The aim is for individuals to engage with these pieces and genuinely experience the serene and tranquil ambiance created by light interacting with materials, thus connecting with the initial intentions and sentiments of the author.
