The study intended to develop a Children’s Emotional and Behavioral Screening Scale for teachers and parents. Utilizing a convenient sampling method recruited 628 children aged 2 to 12. Teachers and parents received an online screening scale to answer children’s emotional and behavioral problems. Collected data were performed by item analysis and factor analysis to remove inappropriate items and established reliability and validity. The results of this study were as follows:
1. The final version of the Children’s Emotional and Behavioral Screening Scale contained 66 items. It consisted of three subscales including Externalizing Problems, Internalizing Problems, and Others. Externalizing Problems included Attention/Hyperactivity, Aggression Behaviors, and Social Problems. Internalizing included Anxious/Depressed, Withdrawn and Somatic Complaints. Others included Sleep Problems and Diet Problems.
2. The coefficient of internal consistency (Cronbach α) of the total scale and each dimension were .704 to .959. The development of the screening scale showed acceptable reliability. The content validity was evaluated and reviewed by four experts and scholars; the construct validity was established by factor analysis, and the three subscales explained 51.072% to 59.541% of the total variance; there were significantly related between the criterion-related validity and the criterion reference group. Content validity, construct validity and criterion-related validity were found satisfactory.
3. Boys obtained significantly higher scores in Externalizing Problems and Internalizing Problems than girls. Although there was a difference in age in a single dimension, it was not significant overall.
4. Children with cutting point above 90% should be referred to professionals to identify for emotional and behavioral problems.
Finally, based on the results, the researcher proposed the limitations of this study and future research recommendations.
