Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a mental illness characterized by "inattention", "hyperactivity and impulsivity". Studies have shown that adult ADHD is highly correlated with criminal behavior, but few studies have examined the association between adult ADHD symptoms and different types of crime. In view of this, the purpose of this study is to explore the severity of attention- deficit/hyperactivity disorder symptoms among adult prisoners in Taiwan, and to further analyze the severity of symptoms and functional deficits in different crime types. A total of 392 male prisoners participated in the study, including 157 (40.1%) property offenders, 154 (39.3%) violent offenders, and 81 (20.7%) drug-using offenders, using the ASRS scale, the self-written personal academic and occupational function and the self-written interpersonal and social function scales, and using dependent samples t test and single-factor independent samples analysis (ANOVA). There are significant differences in symptoms among various types of offenders. Property offenders have more severe attention deficit symptoms, violent offenders have more severe impulsive symptoms, and drug-using offenders have more severe impulsive symptoms. , there are also significant differences in symptoms and functional impairments. After classifying different symptom types, inmates with attention deficit symptoms have more serious academic and occupational functional impairments than the others, and prisoners with impulsive symptoms have more severe impairments in social and interpersonal functions than the others. Different crime types have significant differences in ADHD symptoms and functional deficits. In the future, it is worth further exploring the correlation between variables and whether there is a causal relationship.
