In 2020, the coronavirus pandemic had made international tourism a serious recession, which has caused disaster all over the world. In order to prevent the continuous spread of highly infectious pneumonia, many countries have been put on lockdown policy, which leads to the rapid reduction of the number of people moving or travelling abroad, making the common cross-border travels like day dreams can’t be reached. However, the epidemic period has lasted over a year, although vaccine research and development has been completed and people started to be vaccinated continuously, the impacts by Corona virus is not moderated at all; even worst, the variant of virus was born and started to ravage the world. Due to the epidemic situation has turned to more moderate situation in Taiwan than in China for more than months, in order to revitalize overseas tourism, Taiwanese proposed to have bubble tourism plan with Palau. Nevertheless, the results did not come up so well instead. On the other hand, Japan has been the most frequent visited country for Taiwanese in the past six consecutive years since 2015, surpassing mainland China and Hong Kong as a result. Thus, this study will focus on Japan to explore under however kind of conditions will prompt Taiwanese to restart overseas tourism under the threat of epidemic.
Taking Japan as an example, this paper collects the data of the current epidemic status and the prevention methods of Japan and Taiwan by using the self-designed questionnaire as a quantitative analyzing tool, along with the regression model, to show the influencing factors of the willingness to restart the tourism to Japan under the epidemic. The empirical results show that the gender, age, marital status, whether we have been to Japan and how many times we have been to Japan as explanatory variables, among all these reasons we are interested in, this explanatory variable “have you been to Japan” has the most significant impact in the questionnaire. The empirical results of this paper will provide Taiwanese citizens and decision makers of tourists’ industry that want to travel to Japan as references for choices
