  惠普科技自1939年由Bill Hewlett及David Packard兩位創辦至今82個年頭,包含創辦人在內經歷了八任CEO。自第五任CEO起,公司開始外招CEO而不是內部升遷,自起也開啟了惠普一厥不振的序章,中間歷經了各種轉型、分拆、併購及大規模經營策略變更,雖有馬克.赫德這般雄才偉略領導,帶領惠普一度超越IBM成為市場的領導者,但隨公司的內鬥最終黯然退場。每一任後繼者都大幅度變更前人的營運方針,例如全盤否決前人的規劃、將併購的公司棄如敝履以及有爭議的超額併購,使得惠普空轉內耗,變的失控且沒有章法。到了第八任CEO,惠普的市值從1190億美金降到了560億美金,內部有各種併購及轉型的後遺症、外部有移動領域興起導致技術環境改變,惠普重新思考了精簡組織方法,以及整合既有優勢面對變革中的市場,經過又一系列的組織重整,惠普的營收仍然不見起色,競爭對手步步逼近。
  最終CEO決定將公司依照產品及服務特性一分為二,分拆成兩間獨立的公司,希望藉由這樣的轉變將火力集中在盈利能力較強的產品,重振惠普的榮耀。
  The Hewlett-Packard Company (HP Company) was founded by Bill Hewlett and David Packard in 1939, and it has been 82 years. Including the founders, the company has experienced eight CEOs; however, the CEOs were not from internal promotion since the fifth CEO but recruited externally, which initiated the setbacks of HP Company. Until the eighth CEO, the market value had dropped to 56 billion US Dollars from 119 billion. Encountering the failures of different merger and acquisition transformation, the HP Company reconsidered the downsizing methods. Nevertheless, there was no revenue improvement after a series of reorganization, and the competitors were chasing closely behind. Ultimately, the CEO decided to divide the company into two individual firms to take care of products and services separately, expecting such a transformation can enable the companies to focus on high-profit items and revive the HP Company’s glory.
