回顧臺灣考古學研究中關於「貝器工藝技術」的議題受到材料不足的限制，遲遲未能有更進一步的討論。然而2019至2021年鵝鑾鼻第一史前遺址發掘出土的貝器和貝料，不只數量龐大、類型也相當多元，根據遺物的出土脈絡以及現象的空間分布，已然可見一處距今4000年前的史前貝器加工場。
本研究的目的是藉由貝料的類型，輔以操作鏈的概念說明貝器從貝殼到成品的生產過程，試圖推論出貝器的製作工序以及了解史前工匠的製作思維。以往貝器加工技術的討論多著重在與石、玉器和骨角牙器於技術層面、廢料類型的相似性，可是相同的技術在不同的年代、區域都會出現，難以單憑此證據討論技術的源流與傳播。因此，貝器工業的獨特之處應在工匠如何根據原料本身的性質，如產地、質地、形狀和尺寸等條件發展對應的加工概念與方法，遂針對出土數量最多的夜光蠑螺、硨磲蛤亞科的殼體製成的貝器及生產過程中各階段的產物，包含成品、半成品、塊料及廢料的類型了解製作貝器的動態過程，並結合其他工具的使用、遺留的空間分布說明鵝鑾鼻第一史前遺址出土貝質遺留及貝器加工場的重要意含。

In the past, the study of "shell manufacturing industry" within the archaeological academia in Taiwan has not been deeply discussed by the due to the scarcity of materials. However, the excavations at the O-Luan-Pi I Site from 2019 to 2021 found a substantial and diverse types of shell artifacts and shellfish blanks. Based on the analysis of the historical context and spatial distribution of these objects, it is clear that there was a prehistoric shell workshop, dating back 4,000 years.
The aim of this thesis is to derive the type of shellfish blanks and supplemented the concept of the Chaîne opératoire to analyze and interpret the manufacturing process of shell artifacts, tracing the journey from shell to finished product and understanding the production mindset of the prehistoric shell artifacts craftsmen from O-Luan-Pi. In previous scholarship, discussions on shell processing technology primarily focused on the similarities in manufacturing tachnologies and debitage types observed in stone, jade and bone tools. However, the same technology might appear in different ages and regions, as such it is difficult to reveal the origin and remodel the spread of their technologies solely based on these two evidences. Therefore, the uniqueness of the shell manufacturing industry lies in how the shell craftsmen developed specific processing concepts and methods corresponding to the characteristics of the raw materials, including their natural environment, texture, shape, and size, etc.
Therefore, in order to comprehend the dynamic production process of shell artifacts, this study examines the finished products, semi-finished products, as well as various types of blocks and wastes made of Turbo marmoratus and Tridacninae shellfish—the most abundant excavated shellfishes at the O-Luan-Pi I Site. Additionally, through the analysis of the tools employed in manufacturing these shell artifacts and the examination of the spatial distribution of the remains, this study further illustrates the significance of the excavated shell remains and the shell workshop at the O-Luan-Pi I Site.
