As a representative of Chinese modern author, Zhao Qingge (1914 - 1999) undeniably has some degree of contribution and influence in the world of Chinese literature. Zooming past seventy years of literature, a tantamount of works were produced by Zhao. Especially during China's World War II (WWII), she has written many adaptations of the Japanese World War drama. Not to mention compiling works for the literature and publications of WWII. Being actively involved in the war resistance literature work as a female script writer, Zhao has always been ignored by researchers. Based on current war resistance literature history rumors, there has never been a single discussion about Zhao’s work, even more so that current studies are unable to explain the practicality of her script’s main thought.
Furthermore, this thesis will depict the life of Zhao Qingge, to make her image stand out, then analyze the practicality of war resistance script. By getting to be acquainted with Zhao, only then to be able to have full confidence in understanding all her script’s practicality during the period of war. Thus, this thesis aims to know and recognize Zhao, analyze her script and adaptations during the eight years of war resistance. With this in mind, by having a forum with the previous studies of the scripts, then collect different opinions and suggestions from different viewpoints.
The second chapter of this thesis will focus on the earlier life of Zhao where she experienced the war and the way she lives, from here on to underline the cumulation of her personality, advocating the author’s standpoint where personality will affect the script’s practicality. The third chapter will focus on analyzing the adaption during the resistance war period, and will have three scripts theory as reference point, then study the elucidation of Zhao’s work between philosophy and concept. The establishment of characters in the script, laying of conclusion and philosophy will be the main interpretation of this chapter, responding to the theory of previous studies claiming that Zhao’s work is conceptual and logically formularise. The fourth chapter will be based on To Live as research text to probe Zhao's adaptation’s practicality. Other than interpreting the originality of To Live, a comparison will be made between the translation and adaptation of the script, thus suggesting a strategy and concern from it.
Based on the aforementioned concern, this thesis suggest a distinct thought philosophy that is suffice to close the gap left by previous study, while trying to let the world get hold on Zhao Qingge thoughts on the period of war, to breakaway the misconception and bias opinion of the scripts and adaptation works.
