The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between working memory and reading comprehension of 4- to 6-year-old children when they reading picture books. This study compared the effects for reading comprehension of verbal working memory, visual-spatial working memory, and age. Participants of this study were 94 children, 32 children aged 4, 39 children aged 5, and 23 children aged 6. The results of correlation analysis showed that there was a significant positive correlation between verbal working memory and reading comprehension of 4- to 6-year-old children and the relationships were affected by age. In addition, the results of regression analysis showed that verbal working memory and visual-spatial working memory have different effects on reading comprehension of 4- to 6-year-old children after excluding the influence of age.
