The main purpose of this study was to explore children’s perspectives of play. In this study, the participants were from a public kindergarten, aged 5-6 years old in Hangzhou. In order to explore children's perspectives on the play, the researcher used observations, interviews and children's paintings. The following conclusions were reached: (1) children had obvious play preferences: children's favorite play centers were construction area, doll house, pizza shop, outdoor play area and book corner. In addition to the outdoor play area, the rest of the children mentioned were all play center activities, which showing the importance of play center activities for young children; (2) Children indicated that play activities should be interesting, accompanied by positive emotions, freedom, pretending and reality, which reveal that children paid more attention to the inner experience of play and hope to obtain the intrinsic value of play through activities; (3) teachers played an important role in children's play. Teachers played the roles of participants, observers, order maintainers and game participants in children's play, and the effective participation of teachers in children's play can meet the children’s requirements for time, opportunity, space and materials. Based on the results of this study, suggestions for future research direction and children's play in mainland China are proposed. There are three suggestions :(1) focus on the intrinsic value of the play; (2) Take play as the basic activities; (3) Explore the play mode suitable for Chinese society and culture.
