ABSTRACT

The increase in richness and nuance discourse on immigrant entrepreneur study shows the scholars realization on immigrant entrepreneur is an important puzzle toward better policing of this population. In contrary, to the best of our knowledge, Taiwan to this date does not have enough academic work to uncover the conundrum of immigrant entrepreneurs in Taiwan, which posit a problematic in policing considering the almost 1 million immigrant population. This study attempts to contribute to the discussion by providing a characteristic of Indonesian immigrants in Taiwan as well as the pull and push factors from the perspective of ethnic enclave economy theory and mix embeddedness theory. Besides the demographic and general characteristics of Indonesian immigrant entrepreneurs in Taiwan, our study also provides how the human capital, the relational and structural embeddedness, low financial entry barrier for establishing business, and other factors playing a significant role in the creation and sustaining Indonesian immigrant entrepreneur in Taiwan.
