“Suo” is one of the high-frequency words in modern Chinese. In this thesis, by observing the verbs and their arguments in the “suo+V+de+N” pattern, we can further understand their grammatical, semantic, and pragmatic characteristics and apply them for pedagogical purposes. This study comprises 2000 spoken data and 2000 written data from the Corpus of Contemporary Taiwanese Mandarin (COCT) of the National Academy of Education. It maintains that the most common form of the “suo+V+de+N” pattern is “suo+V+de+N”, and the other three prominent structural variants include “suo+V+de” “suo+V+N” and “suo+V+zhi+N”. In the “suo+V+de+N” pattern, transitive verbs are most frequently used (98.45%), of which transitive action verbs are most common (74.075%), transitive state verbs are the second frequently used (16.625%), and transitive process verbs are ranked third (7.75%). Intransitive verbs are accounted for 1.35%. The most common type of semantic roles, that appeared in the “suo+V+de+N” pattern, is the patient type, including patient, result, target, and relative. The second category is external arguments, including location, range, manner, and material. The rarest category is the agent type, including agent, theme, and sentiment. Regarding the registers of “suo+V+de+N”, “suo+V+de+N” frequently appears in written language, formal speeches and interviews, but rarely in daily life conversations. There is no big difference between the “suo+V+de+N” pattern’s structures in spoken and written languages. Among the variants, “suo+V+zhi+N” and “suo+V+N” are the two most significant written variants. When the pattern appears in written language, the verbs’ complements and the determiners or the quantifiers of nouns rarely appear simultaneously. Therefore, there is a tendency to choose one of those either. According to the research results, this paper reviews and analyzes the four current Chinese textbooks in Taiwan and proposes suggestions for the presentation of the function, structure, and usage of “suo+V+de+N” and a simple lesson plan for it.
