The present work discusses online virtual reality through the lens of creative metalworking. Having met with a number of obstacles and frustrations in my own life, the author turned to playing online computer games to burn off steam. In virtual reality, I can construct an identity that is completely different from your own, and lead a wholly new virtual life online. In virtual reality, anyone can be the master of the world that he or she has created. I also wanted to create virtual world, complete with a narrative script that, while fully conforming to my own conceptions, brooked no external interference. I also wanted to be both the unique creator and sole arbiter of my virtual world, choosing its defining element—metalworking performed by drones. Looking back on my creative career, the author fell upon on the idea of integrating model assembly kits and the craft of metalworking. Before embarking on the creative process itself, I reviewed relevant Masters' and Doctoral theses, and compared and analyzed works by different artists to assess how far they differed from my own. Having established a clear creative direction, and read and absorbed a broad range of material, the author was able to make a more complete series of designs and a comprehensive narrative script. In the virtual world that the author created, there are two series of drones: the “Bionic Series” and the “Mechanized Series.” The “Bionic Series” may be further subdivided into “Insect Series,” “Beetle Series” and “Aquatic Series.” The “Mechanized Series” may be further subdivided into “Model Series,” “Space Explorer Series,” “F1 Series” and “Super Series”. In total there are twenty two designs that successfully embody the original conception of integrating metalworking and model assembly kits within a self-created virtual world.
