The research utilizes administrative data and survey data of NTHU from 2012 to 2017 to evaluate the students’ performance in terms of different GSAT subjects selected in admission process, in particular the "science" or "society" excluded in all GSAT subjects. We then divided NTHU students into "humanities", " science and engineering " and "management" categories, under the category of " science and engineering ", the division of the "science group" and the "engineering group" are subdivided. Our main finding reveals the subjects with positive and significant impact on academic performance in the case of different GSAT subjects selected in admission process, and the effect of the total score excluding science on the academic performance is higher than the one excluding society in all groups (including subgroups). Finally, although colleges can adjust the enrollment strategy for reference, the research suggests that colleges still have to determine based on the characteristics of the department to ensure that colleges recruit suitable students. In addition, the research attempts to infer possible causes of the higher effect of society on performance than math in the science and engineering category.
