Indonesia is one of the largest natural resource producer in the world. Along with population and economic growth, Indonesia is challenged to meet the energy demand growth. Indonesia has also signed the Paris Climate Agreement (PCA) to fight against climate change and limiting the increasing global temperature by 1.5o C. The purpose of PCA is to reduce greenhouse gas emission with target to reduce the increasing heat worldwide by 1.5 degree, which caused by burning fossil fuel. Countries who’s joined PCA are responsible to submit Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDCs) on 2020. This act of joining PCA shows Indonesia's determination, making Indonesia bound to rule and responsible to achieve what is agreed on PCA agreement list.
On the other hand, Indonesia is also abundant with renewable energy with big potential to be developed in a big scale which is geothermal due to its strategic geographic location. This research is to review Indonesia's renewable energy potentials from various aspects and the challenges that Indonesia needs to face in developing renewable energy.
This research included a case study of Indonesia renewable company PT Terregra Asia Energy with its current project and progress project.
Key words: Fossil fuel, renewable energy, Indonesia, biomass
