即如同教育人類學者Susan Wright所言：「文化是一個過程，強調的是語言和權力，顯示出話語的條件是如何被構建和爭論的，以及為什麼會產生如此的結果。」（1994：26）本研究欲探討「自立」作為一組織文化核心，觀察組織中的個體如何於深陷於服務對象各種嵌套式情境中，服膺於組織型態、案主以及外部組織機關等共同施力所打造出的自我規訓（discipline），成就其個體的自主性；另綜觀方面，本研究亦延伸到芒草心組織從其組織及工作型態、外部網絡、國家政策與政治環境中加倍延伸「自立」的組織文化。而最後，本研究試圖闡釋由個體、組織交互影響、滲透的「自立」，如何帶來一體兩面的效應。

As Susan Wright, an educational anthropologist, puts it, “Culture as a process places emphasis on language and power, showing how the terms of discourses are constructed and contested and why, with what outcomes.” (1994: 26) This research aims to investigate “self-reliance” as the core of an organization's culture of The Homeless Taiwan Association, and tries to elaborate how social workers are trapped in various nested situations with clients, and how they submit to self-discipline inspired by the organization's form, the clients, and external organizational agencies to complete their individual autonomy. From a macroscopic perspective, this research also observed that the “self-reliance” culture of The Homeless Taiwan Association is doubly strengthened by their organizational and work styles, external networks, national policies, and political environments. Lastly, this research explains how “self-reliance”, which is constructed by the interaction of individuals and organizations, brings about the result of two sides of the same coin.
