Digital ecosystem is a fluid organization influenced and shaped by both digital platforms and traditional institutional logics. Its identity comes from the institutional logic at the organizational level and is constituted by the social interactions among coordinator, users and complementers. Confusingly, however, little is known about how exactly digital ecosystem identity is formed. In order to respond to this challenge, we use the perspectives of communicative institutionalism and institutional logics to conduct a qualitative analysis of Xiaomi. The results show that digital ecosystem identity includes four logics: platform, community, market and company. More importantly, this study found three interrelated and mutually reinforcing communication mechanisms: contact resonance, frame resonance, and logical precipitation, which constitute the identity of the digital ecosystem. This paper contributes to ecosystem, communicative institutionalism, and the digital turn of institutional logics, and fundamentally extends practice-driven institutional theory.
